Wines White » Germany
German wines are most notable for their fragrant, fruit-forward and elegant style whites, Riesling being at the forefront of their international success. The majority of vineyards are planted in the west along the Rhine River, and on steep slopes to maximize sunlight exposure during the day. With German wine labels underneath the name of the grape (i.e. Gewurztraminer) there will be a level of dryness (i.e. Troken); this will help explain if the style is dry, semi-sweet or sweet. Often this will correlate with the ripeness level indicated on the bottom of the label and help you understand the type of wine you are enjoying.
