Chimay Grand Reserve is a great strong ale, it is another beer that can have it's young character changed slightly by cellaring for a year or more. Chimay Grand Reserve pours a dark slightly clouded amber colour with a smallish off white cap. Aromas of dates or figs and dried apricots. The palate starts with a surprising big mouthful of sweet bready malts before the expected complex/layered banana-fig-hop undertones take over. As the beer sits on the palate the hop accent builds until the finish is surprisingly dry. Chimay Grand Reserve is a very delightful strong ale a wonderful drink.
