(Northern Highland) Tomatin 14 Year Old Port Wood Finish 70cl

The first ever port cask finish from Tomatin distillery. The whisky spends 13 years of its maturation in traditional whisky barrels and is then placed into ex-tawny port casks to mature for one final year.Colour: Rose... subtle pink, red hue through yellow. Nose: Strawberries, dry roasted peanuts, strawberry ice cream sauce-the red syrup stuff. Palate: Dryer than expect, salty gammon, red currants, salted cashews, jelly. Finish: Bubble gum, dry sour apples, a lingering leathery bitterness. Comments: Not as sweet as the nose suggests, but the palate is deep and complex. Port notes without the dessert character that the finish normally displays. Unique and interesting for the academic drammer.
