Rudgate Battle Axe best bitter 50cl

Rudgate ferment using Yorkshire open square vessels like Black Sheep. In fact, this brought to mind Black Sheep's Riggwelter - and it would be good to try them side by side. The brewery uses pale, crystal and chocolate malts in this tasty brew, giving it a very malty flavour with nuts and fruit. Poured initially with a thick off white head that sank back to faint whispy layer of bubbles. Chestnut Red. Buttery nose with raisins and malt offset but a good hop aroma. Lots of fruit and malt in the mouth, slightly chocolately, very easy bitterness, went down so smooth. A lovely drop, with a nice dry finish with hints of sweet toffee. A quality ale.
