Harrogate Best Bitter 50cl
On opening the bottle, there is a distinct dry-hopped aroma, with an underlying hint of malt and caramel. The flavour is very bitter and hoppy, with a grapefruity, resiny character, balanced by a firm malt body. It has a good but not excessive level of carbonation, and there are some spicy notes discernible too. The emphasis is on hops, but there is an appreciable fruity content to the flavour - plums and figs, maybe. Aftertaste is a little caramelly but with a reasonably long bitter finish. Clean and refreshing, a straight forward English bitter, thoroughly enjoyable with a perfect balance of dryly bitter hops, mild orange fruit and a subtle sweetness. Nothing dominates, everything works in harmony. The ultimate session beer: relaxed, refreshing, sociable.
