Dating back to the Bronze Age in Europe, mead is one of the oldest known beverages, drunk throughout history for rituals and celebrations. Enticingly sweet with a hint of spice, it is the perfect accompaniment to spicy food and delicious with strong cheeses and biscuits. Castle Mead has been produced by hand for English Heritage in small batches by the award-winning Lyme Bay Winery. Once the Vikings' drink of choice, it was also believed to improve health and prolong life. Created by honey and water fermented with yeast, sometimes containing various fruits / spices
