Daleside Brewery's Morocco Ale is based on an ancient recipe from 300years ago found at Levens Hall in Cumbria. Morocco Ale pours dark in colour with a short-lived brownish head. The aroma is smoky and hoppy, with fruity, estery elements. On the palate there is an immediate rush of complex fruity malt flavours - plums, blackberries and juniper berries, plus a subtle hint of spice. There is a little sweetness, but this is more than compensated for by the malty, treacly bitterness. The subdued hop content adds to its dry character. Morocco Ale is also quite tart, again bringing to mind wild berries. Aftertaste is darkly malty, fruity and lingering. Undeniably a terrific, complex strong ale - one for malt-lovers to look out for
