Not for the faint-hearted, Hell Smoked Rum is a Caribbean rum aged in an Islay whisky cask with fresh scotch bonnet and bird's eye chilli, smoked chipotle and ancho chilli, and cacao nibs. The packaging describes it as a "face-melting blend of fire and smoke", as well as "like being stung in the face by a bee!", so there we go, you know what you're getting yourself into. The aroma is dominated by a smoky, charred wood scent, reminiscent of campfire smoke. On the palate, the first impression is a bold, smoky flavor akin to barbecued meats or charcoal. Dark, rich flavors of caramelized sugar, coffee, and cocoa come through, providing depth. A slight sweetness from the molasses balances the smokiness, with hints of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
