(Weissebier) Maisels Weisse 50cl

Maisels Weisse pours a dark golden colour, with the hazy appearance typical of the weissbier style, and a pleasingly thick and creamy head that stays right to the last mouthful. The nose is of vanilla, light spice and a little lemon zest - vanilla also evident in the froth. On the palate Maisels Weisse is extremely light and smooth, with little evidence of its strength. Bready, doughy, moderately tangy wheat malt with a fair amount of overall sweetness and low taste of caramel. Quick dash of cider. Yes, you've got your banana esters and clove bud accents, but it's not nearly as forceful as some heffes can be. Lemon zest is also present, though without any associated sharpness. The finish is very clean and pleasant; some yeast and vanilla remain well into the aftertaste. Overall this is a good introduction to the style, perhaps, and seemingly a good swigging beer despite its strength depth and complexity of flavour.
