Grimbergen Dubbel 33cl

Grimbergen Dubbel is Brewed by Alken-Maes for the Grimbergen abbey, this is a double dark beer, whose appearance and taste are a close approximation of an English brown ale. Grimbergen Dubbel Despite being bottle conditioned, this brew is a brilliant dark amber, forming a pillowy tan head which lasts till the end, leaving sticky lace with each sip. Mild to moderate carbonation, with small bubbles that seem to take their sluggish time to the top. Aroma is rich and complex...figs, dates, vanilla, subtle phenols, an interesting note of apple and honey. Mouthfeel is pleasantly cloying, luxuriously smooth, soft and creamy. Rich, thick body. Taste starts with a delicate, mild hop spiciness, followed by a firm amber malt & fruitcake sweetness, a subtle touch of sweet cloves. Restrained alcohol presence is noted before the finish, which consists of a very mild bittering hop, tons of fig and date sugars, and a semi-astringent roasted bite. This beer is remarkably complex. The rich fruity, balanced, lasting flavour, only leaves you wondering how many awards this Belgium Abbey beer must have garnished.
