A warming, subtly coastal expression from Wemyss Malts. It's not an in-your-face blast of peat - Peat Chimney focuses on the elegantly smoky side of things, with a good balance between the sweet and savoury notes you can catch in peated whiskies. Very handsome stuff, this is. A vatting of 16 different whiskies with a hefty slug of 12 year old Islay malt to give it a rich and malty feel with a smack of peat smoke. On nosing, there is an immediate sweet, malty note with gentle wisps of smoke. After a few moments there is almost a hint of charred wood and peat smoke. Peat and Smoke are in the foreground upon tasting, with an underlying citric sweetness. The addition of water intensifies the sweet peat notes, with a sweet and subtle finish.
