Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene 37.5cl

Pours a light tangerine colour with a distinct cloudiness and some sediment collecting at the bottom of the glass. A white head, well developed but receding quickly, leaves a whipped foam kind of ring and some scattered film. Big sourness on the front, with subtler floral notes underneath.sharp citrus notes dominate, but there's an underlying sweetness and slightly musty character that add complexity. Following the nose, the taste is seriously tart with notes of malt, fresh wood, yeast, some pear and apple. A fine balance, there is also green apple and some sour and tart red fruit, woody oak and some wine like tannins. When the beer warms a bit, some sea salt and yeast flavours emerge. Very effervescent, tangy, acidic to some extent. Reminiscent of a champagne to my palate. Dry from the pour until long after the swallow is done.
An ancient beer style, Gueuze, or Geuze, (pronounced "GOO-za") is wild-fermented wheat beer that is made with only aged hops, and those in small quantities. Because gueuze is fermented by multiple strains of yeast, acting over an extended period, it is a testimony & tribute to the yeast strains of the Senne River Valley.
The brewers blend aged lambic and younger lambic, to taste, and refermentation occurs in the bottle after capping. It is highly coveted by gourmands in Belgium who lay it in their cellars, sometimes for years. Lindemans Cuvée René is authentic "Oude Geuze," every batch blended by hand
