Vondel 33cl

Vondel is a strong dark bottle-conditioned speciality from one of Belgium's larger independents, named after the Antwerp-based 'prince of poets' Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679). Classed as a Red Sour Beer The brewery suggests serving at 10°C. The beer is a very dark ruby-brown, with a foamy head and sherry-cask or vermouth-like aroma in which some hops are evident. The palate is full-bodiedly malty and a very prickly carbonation; through this can be discerned dark orange marmalade, wood and spice. The beer turns hoppy on the swallow with a fizz of orange sherbet at the back of the throat, and a mellow woodiness, with quite a bite of hops developing further back. The beer has very high condition, against the mellowness in the flavour.
