(Speyside Rothes) Speyburn 10 year old Malt Whisky 70cl

Speyburn 10 year old Malt Whisky the Distillery sits nestling in a valley on the northern edge of Rothes. Owned by Inverhouse 80% of Speyburn is tankered away to be filled at their headquarters at Airdrie, the remaining spirit is filled into cask and stored in one of two warehouses for single malt use. Nose: Soft and malty. In time there's heather honey, orange and that nutty spicy note which keeps recurring. Water brings out sweet tobacco. Palate: A light, dry, malty start then a really spicy mid-palate. Medium-bodied with a lovely balance struck between spice, dry nut and sweetness. Smooth and soothing. Liquorice. Develops into creamy custard flavours. Finish: soft but later enhanced by a spicy note, slightly dry. Comment: There's plenty going on here. Not big, but has real charm.
