Tomatin 12 year old Malt Whisky, with the first nosing, beyond any shadow of a doubt, a quality Speyside. A typical malted roundness. No big surprise, except that such a good malt is coming from the biggest distillery of Scotland. Nose: Warm, sweet, malty. Then clean, soft, peatiness. Inviting. Water brings out some honey, soft fruits, light woodiness, charred sticks. Palate: Quite big and syrupy. Juicy maltiness. Suggestion of soft liquorice. Rounded and quite sweet. Honey and fruit with some menthol. Crisps up as it stays in the mouth. Finish: Spicy. Smoothly warming. Comment: Simple and straight forward but well composed and enjoyable.
