Belgian Witbier is a Belgian style of ale that's very pale and cloudy in its appearance due to the fact that it is unfiltered and the high level of raw wheat and malted barley, or sometimes oats, that's used in the mash. Belgian Witbier is always spiced, usually with ground coriander, dried Curacao orange peel and other strange spices or herbs. The fruitiness imparted by the wheat, sometimes with suggestions of plum, apple or banana, combines well with the orange and coriander. The crispness and slight twang comes from the wheat and the lively level of carbonation.
