Richmond Brownforth Ales First Draught 50cl
This beer is the brainchild of local chef, Lee Rushforth. Originally intended to accompany his Old Deanery Restaurant menu.
This bottle pours a slightly hazy dark-amber beer, with vigorous medium carbonation, and a foamy off-white head. The aroma is sweet and zesty: lots of fresh honey and beeswax, orange peel, tangy pith, fresh biscuity malt, and a typical English hop aroma. Notes of oak, earth, and mineral water come through on the finish.
This beer is bittersweet throughout, with a warming touch of alcohol, and a pleasant zing from the orange peel. Medium bodied, and fairly effervescent.
All things considered, this is a solid Golden Ale. With a bit of tweaking, the zest, honey and malt will come together to produce a smoother blend, but it makes for very good drinking. Good job, Lee - hopefully the "first draught” of many!
