Heather Ales Ebulum Dark Ale is a very dark beer that displays an intense ruby colour when held up to a lamp. The nose is a complex fruit aroma - flowery, but with a smoky burnt malt tinge. On the palate it is slightly sweet, very citrusy-sharp with a strong bitter quality and a bizarre fruity taste. There is a smoky, slightly chocolaty malt quality on the back of the throat, but no accompanying alcohol kick to hint at the strength. Aftertaste is again fruity and slightly citrusy, fading into rather pleasant chocolate finish. Ebulum Dark Ale a creditable offering - unusual and complex, pleasant and remarkably drinkable for its strength.
