Thatchers has made fine cider in Somerset for over 100 years. Crafted using freshly pressed English apples, many of their traditional ciders are based on authentic recipes and matured in oak. Today these complement the new, refreshingly different drinks in Thatchers' award winning range. Thatchers pear cider pours a medium straw yellow, quite dark for a perry, with consistent bubble trails. The nose is sweet and fruity, with pear, lemon zest and cinnamon coming through to create a very alluring blend. There is an interesting subtle Turkish delight note as it starts, which is gradually overcome by tart pear. This moves into a mix of sweet spice flavours, especially cinnamon and nutmeg, with a smooth, sweet pear finish. There is nothing quite like a proper West Country cider or perry - they offer so much more than their bland, corporate counterparts - and this is a fine example. A delicious perry.
