Butcombe Gold Bitter 50cl

Butcome Gold was originally brewed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of both Butcombe Brewery and the Bristol Balloon Fiesta. It pours a clear golden colour, with a bubbly head that shrinks rapidly to a thin coating. The aroma is hoppy, and slightly orangey or perhaps marmaladey. In the mouth the initial flavour is of earthy, flowery hops (Fuggles are used), which is underlain by slightly grainy malt. A touch of orangey citrus fruit is again apparent. It is fairly dry and bitter initially, but the malt gradually asserts itself, giving a more balanced bittersweet flavour. The finish remains bittersweet and hoppy, leaving a citrusy, grainy aftertaste. A pleasant enough pale ale.
