Orkney Dragonhead Stout 50cl

Dragonhead Stout from the small but well-respected brewery on the Orkney Islands to the north of Scotland, Dragonhead pours a deep brown-black with a bubbly, tan, high-rise head that lasts well. Nose is of rich malt, roasted barley and treacle, not quite masking a hint of hop flower. In the mouth the immediate hit is of the dark malt and roast barley flavours, with a little cocoa powder and black coffee. Dragonhead Stout is not too lively and, despite the rich malt flavours, very dry. A touch of slightly sour woodiness, reminiscent of a good porter, is evident in the finish, leading into a dry, malty, smokey aftertaste. A very enjoyable and full-flavoured stout, with the rich taste suggesting a much stronger brew.
