Austria Urbock 23 33cl

Urbock 23 from Austria pours A golden orange colour with a shortlived head. It has a sweet malt nose, with Apples and light fruits, crystallized sugar, and some caramel to boot, golden syrup and elderflower. Once the head has subsided there is very little condition to the beer, leaving it reminiscent of a dessert wine... it is very sweet, with straw notes and loads of alcohol apparent. Urbock 23 remains thick and heavy, like a low quality barleywine, but it isn't rough. Pear and apple to the taste, which is again sweet. Every note is caramelized. There is some alcohol spice, but not much in the way of warming. Sweet honey, apple, maybe some balancing spices. The finish is again very sweet, leaving varnish on the back of the throat and tongue, though with a bitter kick. This was much lighter, especially for a doppelbock. But it was still quite tasty, very clean, and super easy to drink
