(Islay) Port Ellen Malt Whisky 1982 70cl

Port Ellen Malt Whisky 1982 bottled 2006. Closed since 1984 and now almost completly mothballed. Nose: A real mariner (fishnet, seaweed). Smoke mingled with sea spray. Grassy. Watermelon. A touch of wild mint. Palate: A complex of flavours, emerging one after the other, in clean hits: Oily, seaweedy, green, leafy. Garden mint. Flowery. Caressing mouthfeel. Very refreshing and appetizing. Quite simple. Finish: Warm, drying on licorice and soft spices. Comment: A gentle Port Ellen, with the sea influencing the nose more than the palate. A restrained example of this fine malt, but the silent still is almost out of stock. There will be few further opportunities to buy.
