Caol Ila Malt Whisky (Gaelic for 'the Sound of Islay') is considered to be one of the lighter of the Islays. For a long time, independent bottlers flew the flag of Caol Ila in 2002 they launched their own range of three commendable bottlings which are all excellent. Nose: Genuine Caol Ila. Creosote, lobster pot, Big thick smoke. White pepper. With water, lime and smoked meat. Palate: Sweet, despite strength. Lovely malty feel. Dry and sooty offset by a slightly oily texture and sweet soft fruits. Has complexity. Finish: Long, warm, lingering, with lots of licorice coming through. Comment: What you nose is what you get. A beautiful uncompromising version of Caol Ila.
