(Speyside Central) Imperial Malt Whisky 1991 70cl
Imperial Malt Whisky 1991 The Imperial Distillery fell silent during the 1980's. It was purchased in 1989 by Allied Distillers who, after some work, reopened the distillery in 1991. It was mothballed in 1998. The nose is rather discrete but relatively complex, mixing fruity smells (orange marmalade) with malted hints and a touch of freshly cut grass on the background and even sweeter with water. Butterscotch, stewed rhubarb, macaroon bar/coconut and a light crisp frutiness. Palate: Rounded. Toffee and malt, macadamia nuts playing against concentrated red fruits Flavours pleasant, mixing sweet hints of citrus fruit (pink grapefruit) with discrete hints of honey and some touches of hazelnut. Creamy malt; long, lingering sweetness. Finish: Restrained spiciness. Lingering warmth. Some length. Comment: More Imperial than Port. With or without Port, I would like to see more Imperial.
Strength: 43.0% ABV
