(Speyside Central) Ardmore Malt Whisky 1993 70cl
Ardmore Malt Whisky from the Gaelic word meaning 'Big Slope' is situated at the foot of the Grampian Mountains. It was founded in 1898 just before the collapse of the whisky market a year, later due to over supply. Its survival can be attributed to the fact that it was built to maintain malt supplies for Teachers' Highland Cream. Rich gold in colour. Nose: Freshly-turned earth, apple blossom, a little smoke, spicey notes. Fragrant, medium-bodied. Water brings out apple wood, cream and a citric lift with distinct smoke. In time, a light nuttiness. Palate: Soft sweet start the peat held in check by balancing acidity. Fresh, lightly smoky and clean. Malty with a toffeish mintiness. Finish: Sweet, with smoke drifting by. Comment A pleasant dram, especially with a slash of water. All the qualities of this distillery: Fragrance, good feel, little smoke one of their best, well put together.
