(Eastern Highland) Lochside Malt Whisky 1991 70cl
Lochside Malt Whisky 1991 bottled 2006. Lochside Distillery closed in 1992 Allied Distillers owned more distilleries than they could effectively use so the Lockside distillery was closed. The maturing stocks of whisky were distributed over the following five years the warehouse was closed in 1997 and demolished in.1999 the rest of the distillery was demolished in 2005. Nose: Fresh with light fruits, preserved lemon, green grapes. Water tames it a little but those high-toned fruity/floral aromas dominate. Palate: Incredibly sweet to start and also slightly fizzy. It's a lemon sherbet dab! Water doesn't manage to kill this zippiness though there is a slight woody edge. Slippery-smooth. Astonishingly sugary. A real sugar-rush. Then buttery. Like eating breakfast pancakes with fruit. Finish: lingering, pleasant, marked by the memory of too ripe exotic fruits and all the warmth of an excellent whisky. Comment: Vibrant, sure wakes you up. Lochside was a capricious malt, but it is missed nonetheless.
